A mug with the right proportions for a proper cup of tea is an illusive thing - handle big enough, rim smooth enough, walls thick enough to keep the tea hot but thin enough to feel light in the hand, and in a nice glaze colour, too. This oatmeal is an absolutely classic choice. It's an interesting glaze because it's a touch off-white with tiny little speckles coming through from the gently basalt-flecked clay they're made from. The form is a tiny bit leany-inny but not so overt it feels distracting to look at. And it's got a comfy traditionally pulled handle with a groove in which to rest your thumb.

Named after one of my oldest friends - a proper powerhouse of a woman - who appreciates a nice mug.
