Thrown from white stoneware on my pottery wheel before being turned and then carved by hand to create satisfying grooves wrapping around the form.

I love throwing tall narrow shapes and this vase was no different. Getting the clay to go up rather than out is always a fun challenge and I think the form is emphasised nicely by the grooves - I try and make the marks quite clean but also with enough movement in them that they don't look like they've been made in a press mould. I spent a long time carving out those lines and the whole point is that they look like they've been done by hand. Pottery truly is a labour of love.

Truly an individual piece which would look lovely with a couple of stems in - it's been glazed on the inside and out so it's fully waterproof. Alternatively it would look lovely on a mantlepiece or a shelf near a window. The grooves look particularly good in direct sunlight.
